The remote islands of the South Pacific were the last habitable region on Earth to be colonised by humans. A massive extinction event followed human colonisation, with fossil deposits revealing the loss of thousands of bird populations on islands across the Pacific. However gaps in the fossil record mean that considerable uncertainty surrounds the magnitude and pattern of these extinctions.
Thursday Talks are held at 12.30pm every Thursday from February to November in the Gardens' Theatrette. Talks last for one hour. Admission is by gold coin donation. There is no need to book.
